We created this rainbow anchor chart to help us remember them. This is good practice for the children to choose which dragon they want to draw and follow the directions- or freestyle and draw their own fabulous dragon.

I have a copy of each type of drawing on each of the tables as a reference. They love our Spell Check time. Depending on the result, it could be an afternoon set up or a new permanent look. Snowmen At Night, At Work, All Year Compare and Contrast

I am often asked how I teach my students to identify errors, especially when they just don't know where to begin. It supports literacy development when children "write" signs and "read" task cards.

Hand-eye coordination and visual discrimination are strengthened when students group blocks that are the same size and shape at clean-up time. We did the painting one day and the assembly the next day. Even the parent can benefit from this little break in the day. In first grade we focus on one scientific rule at a time along with some high frequency words.

It is a curricular idea that teaches students to spell words they do not know by using reliable patterns and rules of the English language. Then we added some cotton balls for snow.

I love how we allow differentiation, and self selected words.

I have them go back and reference their notebooks while they are looking at their errors. Speaking of making things visually easier for our kids to process, another thing you might want to consider is adding an anchor picture with each header to help with letter/sound relationships this is.

S is for Snowman! Saturday, December 27, We decided to work on one poem a month so we could fit it in to our already jam-packed day. The first week in December, we introduced the poem and practiced it several times.

We found and highlighted the at words with yellow crayon, then practiced writing them on the back. We talked about. "What Do Snowmen Do At Night?" Anchor Chart. While I new what phonological awareness was and how to teach the different aspects of it, I spent more time pushing letter and individual sound recognition and less time counting words in a sentence, segmenting and blending syllables, onset-rime, alliteration, and rhyming.
